About
Betty Brownson – Website Designer:
I’ve always loved food, but sweets are my thing. I don’t mind skipping the main meal and heading straight for the chocolate cake! My life revolves around my family, from taking culinary courses at the University to create better meals for them to finding out who will teach my son how to snowboard. I’ve lived in Alaska since I was eight and I’ve seen Alaska, especially Anchorage, evolve into a great place. However, I felt there was something missing. A website where you could get information about Alaska’s food and entertainment. Living here, for as long as I have, has let me come across great people and I realized I could collect this information and present it Alaska and possibly the world! So this site is my attempt to show you all what Food in Alaska is all about. You might be asking “so who are your contacts and how did you meet?” Well, here it is. I met Rob when he was working at the Hotel Captain Cook (both times he was there actually) and Jay well, I still have the pleasure of working with him. Carolyn is Rob’s lovely wife and of course I met her through him and the “Your Not So Average Food Reviewer” well that is going to be left a mystery.

Your Not So Average Food Reviewer:
When I was asked to give reviews for RestaurantsInAlaska.com I instantly said no. First, I’m not a picky eater. I do not have a culinary degree or background. I think finicky eaters that do not have allergies are ridiculous. I pictured my article with tons of blog comments that are useless and usually infuriating to most readers no matter what their point of view is. Then they said I could be anonymous. Well, that is better but there is a logic to it as well. It’s a small town. I know a lot of people in the business in my tiny world. I would be treated differently if they know I’m going to review them or might review them. I still said no. Then they said that there wasn’t going to be a blog. If you’ve ever read a single blog you quickly realize that people get off work, kick the dog and bash people with poor grammar and unbridled ignorance. That’s not how I roll. So here I am.
A little (but not too much) about me. I have lived on the northwest coast my entire life and in Alaska for over 10 years. I have traveled around the Americas fairly extensively and I love to eat. My wife is an accomplished cook and I know many people in the industry. I’m about the size of a professional quarterback minus the definition, speed, strength, skill, money and looks. I do not watch what I eat, have no idea what foods have what calories and I do not care.
While there are things that I prefer to eat and things I’d prefer not to eat, I like everything except for soggy bread. Bread that has been soaked in anything is just not good.
Everything includes asparagus, shark, tongue, spicy food, sour food, over cooked food, under cooked food, all sea foods including raw oysters, poor service, great service, yellow plates, blue plates, tons of garnish, no garnish…
My point is that my reviews are based on a solid love for food and some pretty low expectations. I really don’t want to hear about your experiences with poor service or how you hate parsley and someone put parsley near your dish.
These guys have their fingers on the pluse of Alaska Cuisine so guys, here’s to a new adventure!
